Learn about its symptoms and preventive measures to gain a better understanding.

What is abdominal migraine?

A person suffering from abdominal migraine experiences severe pain in the stomach just like the head. This migraine pain occurring in the stomach is called an ‘abdominal migraine’. It may also cause severe stomach pain, cramps, fatigue, and vomiting. According to experts, this type of migraine pain is more due to genetic reasons.

Who is most at risk of abdominal migraine?

The victims of this type of migraine pain are usually small children. Children whose parents are already victims of migraine are most at risk of this type of migraine. These children are also most likely to suffer from migraine when they grow up. Migraine pain occurs not only in the head but also in the stomach.

Causes

According to doctors, two compounds produced in the body, histamine and serotonin, are responsible for this type of pain. Both these compounds are formed in the body due to excessive stress and depression. Apart from this, excessive consumption of monosodium glutamate used in Chinese foods, processed meat and chocolate also leads to the formation of these compounds in the body.

Symptoms

Severe pain in the stomach

– Loss of appetite and not feeling like eating or drinking

 – Dark circles under the eyes

 – Yellowish appearance of the stomach.

Treatments

The elusive nature of the exact cause of abdominal migraine can lead to the severity of this issue, emphasizing the challenge it poses in some cases. Doctors treat it like normal migraine, due to which many times the patient does not get full benefit. Whenever any symptom of abdominal migraine appears in the child, take him to the doctor immediately without any delay.
